I am the top three, but the other two would be an insult to my intelligence, way of life, and my home. The top three describe country people and their way of life. The other two are insults and not descriptive of country people.

All these terms were originally for Southerners. Most now apply to anyone living in a rural area.

Nearly all Southerners are Rednecks. The term originally came from someone who worked outside, and their neck was always sunburned.

Hick is someone who's very rural, a Southerner who's...ignorant, or ill-educated. This is slightly derogatory.

Hillbilly can be traded with Redneck, but it meant someone who lived in the back hills, someone WAY out there, the type with no indoor bathroom sort of thing. Not really insulting.

White trash does not apply to Southerners. White trash applies to all whites. It means you're low, common, ignorant. It's the equivalent to calling someone ghetto.

Trailer trash is usually used jokingly. Since so many people in the South live in trailers, and especially trailer parks. They're though to be less intelligent, or at least less educated, more common, not very sophisticated. People call Britney Spears trailer trash. Just look at her actions and you'll see why.

Hick - Someone who lives out in the country away from the urban areas.
Redneck - Though this one has gotten some what of a negative conotation. Originally all it ment was someone who worked hard supposedly laboring out in the sun. There for they got sunburn on thier necks which then became red.
Hillbilly - someone who lives in the mountains
White Trash - Poor, unsophisticated uneducation and often morally deginerate white people. Who have no desire or motivation to better themselves.
Trailer Trash - Pretty much the same thing as white trash, only they don't have to be white and they do have to live in a trailer.

Hick (anywhere in the country) and Redneck ( usually southern) are about the same thing. A hillbilly is a redneck from the mountains(Example east TN). Hick, Redneck, and Hillbilly are not necessarily trash but can be. White Trash is white people from ANYWHERE who are TRASH. Trailer Trash is trashy people living in trailers and that can be anywhere.

They all mean pretty well the same, and are used by rude, backwards folks that are into stereotyping.
