I've seen Big Ben (more properly St Stephen's Tower - betcha didn't know that!) destroyed in film in Gorgo and Mars Attacks and on television on Dr Who and Time Trumpet (last night). Does anyone else have any more examples of it being destroyed?

Couldn't answer that question. But I cheered when Team America destroyed Paris!

Big Ben is a monument synonymous with the UK, like the Pyramids of Eygpt, the White House, the Eiffel Tower. So in films they destroy recognised monuments just to say, "Hi, we're here in the UK/Egypt/Paris"

In V for Vendetta, Big Ben was destroyed because it was connected to the houses of parliament. It didn't mean anything specifically. In the book, it's Post Office tower he blows up, and downing street is blown up at the end...

Tally Ho........here we come, Algy & Ginger and I come to the rescue.

What a spiffingly good question!!!!

I think the most destroyed monument is the Statue of Liberty followed by the Capitol.

As for "knowing" it to be St Stephen`s Tower, yes I did know.

Big Ben gets blown up in V for Vendetta!

I think The Statue of Liberty is more attacked, its such a typical apocalyptic image to see the statue of liberty up to the eyes in snow!
