The land speed record is the fastest speed achieved by a vehicle on land, as opposed to one on water or in the air. It is standardized as the speed over a course of fixed length, averaged over two runs in opposite directions. The current record holder is ThrustSSC, which has achieved 763 mph, or 1227 km/h, breaking the sound barrier. There are also other records for specific classes of vehicle, such as motorcycles (333.117 mph) and steam-driven vehicles (145.607 mph), but this list only includes the absolute speed records for wheeled vehicles on ground, without rails. Early records predate standardization and are sometimes controversial.

Just heard on the news the other day this guy reached 350 mph in a special car. He said he was only in 5th gear & if they were able to have another test run & use the 6th gear he believed they could go even faster. It was also mentioned that they'd reached 360 mph but I believe for some reason the official # they had to record was the 350.

See the movie "The World's Fastest Indian." I believe New Zealand's Burt Monro still holds the motorcycle speed record.
