I wouldn't mind the half mile long answers as long as the person who puts there actually came up with the answer himself.

What I hate most is people copying and pasting entire articles from Wikipedia or any other websites. For that reason, the disappearing trick with answers you don't like is good.

Perkins thinks he's clever with that one. Not funny. Thank goodness for the disappearing trick.

I do enjoy being able to hide the answers I dislike or find unhelpful....dare we hope that Yahoo has some kind of counter that will show a pattern in low ratings on some of the more abusive responders?

it's a good feature, but please tell me you (or others) aren't giving thumbs-downs just to avoid scrolling past long answers?

many of the longer answers on here are posted by people who put real effort into answering a question well. thumbs-downs give them less incentive to continue answering well, which will (i predict) eventually turn this place into a mosh-pit of racial hatred and religious zealotry, with a super-squadron of edna-police controlling it all. which is not what we want to see

=edit=

though i must agree with "twokay75" - a half-miler that's just a copy-and-paste deserves as many thumbs-downs as it can get

It's interesting how frequently the "Best Answer" is a copy/paste of the entire wikipedia text on the subject.

I'm still a bit new to all this, I've just realised, (as a result of your question) that you can do that. Why does hardly anyone do it though?
