the other day i thought i saw a mouse in my living room, however when the light went on it was in fact a huge brown spider, i placed a plastic cup on it, it must of been strong cause it moved and took the cup with it! the sides of the cup just covered the spam of the spider. Has anyone seen one bigger??

There's a spider in my garage that's about 4 to 5 inches wide. He has really strange legs that start off quite wide where they join the body and seem to taper to a point at their tips. Not only is he huge but he can run fast too.
I've thought about sucking him up with a vacuum cleaner, because I'm petrified of spiders, but I get the feeling he'd just get stuck and crawl back out. Such is the mental state of an arachnophobic.

There's a spider called Tegenaria parietina that can have a leg span of 15 cm. I've seen one with 6 cm. It is commonly found in the house. Mostly we see the mature males as they go wandering round looking for females. The females are bigger, but tend to stay in their webs eating att the files and other insects that are in our houses. Being petrified of spiders and liv ing in a farm house I'm always on the look out as they do com e to get me. The largest one I've ever seen was about two years ago my partner had to poke it wqith a chop stick so it would fit inside a pint pot as it's leg span was bigger! Argggh! it wasn't a pet of someone as we are in the middle of a field and it was just like an over grown house spider black, not particularly hairy etc.

That'll be your common house spider, and they do get pretty big. Living where I do however (port town, lots of fruit/veg coming in on ships) I have seen some weird and wonderful big (and not so big) spiders. Biggest possibly tarantula sized - no idea is it was a tarantula or not - and we also have a nice colony of mini scorpions living under the quayside. :)

I've currently got a fairly hefty house spider occupying my downstairs loo; I call him Boris in the time honoured tradition of my family.
One of my friends once found a tarantula in her mum's bathroom. I should imagine that made her jump as she's terrified of even the smallest spider!

i have no idea what this spider is called, but the other day my friend had the same experience (thought was mouse) in her flat. We had to put a tupperware pot over it, when released out the window you heard it land, AND it had what can only be described as horns.

I saw a massive spider (this was black) in the bedroom the other night - we tried to sort it but it ran away behind some boxes. We then saw it again in the kitchen and it still escaped - the swine.

The tiger spiders get pretty big bodies, and the cellar spiders have long legs.
