I like curves too. Skinny, "model" types are a turn off to me, a hard working american man, we need more wemen with curves, most importantly be your natural self, dont kill yourself trying to look like those bean poles.

In past years it's been said in the fashion books that size 14 is the average size. Patterns and dresses are now made larger but smaller size tickets are put on the clothing to appease the public. You also need to think about career people (and people who are always in front of other people selling themselves to sell their products) who think bolemia and anorexia (starving themselves) is ok just to sit in a small size. And the designers cater to them.

Will skinny always be in? As long as we have Hollywood, it will always be "in".

When I was 145 lbs I was a size 14 because I've always been 5'-7". so maybe the size fits the height as well. Could it possibly mean (the popular size of 14) that more people are just considered "tall" in the USA?

And there are Misses sizes, Women's sizes, and half sizes. And these days it's difficult to find a slacks set that fits on top AND on the bottom. So for todays average American woman I think the sizes are strange.

Modeling school and finishing school teaches you to enjoy the size that fits your body. If you have a problem buying clothes off the racks you can either make your own clothes or have someone make them for you.

I think designers are the reason a lot women have issues with their bodies. Many of the hot designers do not have clothes for women who are size 12 and higher. They are considered plus size at that point.

Unfortunatly when on the runways are littered with 6'ft tall women who only wear a size 8 that is what they consider beautiful. As well as models in the magazines. It is hard to feel beautiful as a size 12 when the industries consider you fat

Most guys like women with some meat on your bone.

But I agree the name brand designers should be catering to all their public instead of the ones that can fit size 10 and smaller.

So long as Madison Ave. and Hollywood continue to prop up the control of media exposure exercized by the clothing industry, especially the haute coutourieres, skinny will be in.

Why?

A) Skinny people take less fabric to cover. Less fabric means less cost. Less cost, but same or higher price for "coutoure", means greater profit. And who's gonna derail THAT!?

B) Fat people ARE indisputably less healthy and overall less likely to have longevity than thin people. (Not bulemics or anorexics, of course.) They won't be buying clothes as long as thin people, therefore.

C) Thin people are less likely to overwhelm the outfit with their "presence". That makes the fashionistas and coutouriers very happy!

I am 5'2", 138 lbs. and wear a 10, 11 or 12, depending on the manufacturer's decision regarding what size the item should be.

I'm afraid that thin will always be more "in" than fat.

No. Designer clothes are only in the realm of women that maintain super model sizes. As far as I know skinny will always be in because the alternative to skinny is being fat. ...and noone wants that.

i, myself, am a size 12-(people dont believe it though, they think im a 10) and no, designers dont think about us people that actually eat and dont starve ourselves to death or will ever conceivably be a size 1 ! lol unfortunately, thanks to society, skinny will ALWAYS be in. believe it or not, plus size used to start at size 14-16, and now it starts at size 12. see for yourself the next time you happen to see a Lane Bryant catalog.

It's not really the designers, it's our whole culture that prefers women who are fit. Most models are actually too thin for most people but they make the clothes look better.

God bless you.

I have no idea what motivates pop culture to make women believe that have to look like teenage male heroin addicts.

Women, don't ask E! or Cosmo what's beautiful. Ask a man.

Hat's off to a little junk in the trunk!
