AA has a very low success rate, even by their own admission. The 12 steps are arbitrary...they're just something to do besides drink. Healthy people can come up with better things to do than sit in endless meetings listening to other drunks complaining.

Have you ever heard the saying, "Contempt prior to investigation"?
An intellectual like yourself spends too much time reading between the lines and thinking, instead of actively listening.
They put 'degrees' on thermometers too.
We all know where thermometers go.
I get the feeling that you've struggled with chemical dependency, or are still struggling today.
Labeling myself an alcoholic is just a word that describes my affliction.....like a cancer patient labeling themself a cancer patient...I'm an alcoholic....they're a cancer patient...it's just a word.
If AA is not right for you, then it's just not right for you.
If you think that website makes any sense, then do what the site tells you to do.
Then.....after you realize you still can't stop.....maybe you'll be beaten down to the point that you'll surrender the intellectual for the simple.
It really is a simple program.
We just tend to make it difficult.....kinda like what you're doing, you know?
When the student is ready, the teacher will appear......

Because you first have to admit what your problem is before you can conquer it. If you have a drinking problem, you are an alcoholic. It's not a "label." It's an accurate adjective that describes the characteristic that brought you to the meetings to begin with.
I checked out the link you posted, and really-it's clearly a website for crackpots by crackpots. I couldn't take that site seriously at all.

When we get recovered from drugs and alcohol, we need to "give it away" to someone who may need it...I tell people all the time I'm recovering from drugs and alcohol, because God sends specific people into our midst that may need to hear that recovery is possible....

I don't think they want them to " label" themselves, but instead just be honest with not only themselves but other people about their addiction. In order to help your self deal with an addiction you have to face the addiction and call it what it is. :)

The theory is that you have to admit to yourself that you have a problem.
You cannot address the problem is you continue to believe that there is no problem.
Once you admit that, you can work to control the situation, rather than having the situation control you
