If you're planning to work in the UK, it costs you nothing more than the cost of your visa. The employer applies for the work permit, not you and in most cases they will pay for it. Some employers charge the cost back to the employee but that's rather mean and to be quite honest you wouldn't want to work with people like that.

Visas cost about £250. Check with the Home Office website www.workingintheuk.gov.uk

billyfreddie2: do you realise how many doctors & nurses are actually foreign nationals with work permits? Why the reference to illegal immigrants? Illegal immigrants don't have work permits for the fact that their stay is illegal. Stop reading the tabloids.
