Hi! she is nearly 5 and just today her teacher informed me that her handwriting is very bad and that she is writing very slowly. She is just very playful. At home she finishes her work pretty quickly but I know that it is not neat. What can I do to ?

Don't worry about it. Your little one is still learning hand and eye coordination. Here are some websites that have fun things for you and your child
to do to develope her skills. As for her teacher...

She's 4 yrs old. No 4 yr has legible handwriting. Unless she skipped a grade to be placed in 1st or 2nd grade, there's no reason why she needs to have homework that early in life in the first place. So her handwriting shouldn't be an issue at this point. Either way, it is the teacher's responsibility. But unfortunately, times have changed so that the teachers don't want to assume any responsibility for anything.

Not questioning your parenting skills at all, but what do they do all day while they're there? Unless times have drastically changed for the worse over the last few decades, at every school I went to, they didn't start giving out homework until about the 2nd grade. And handwriting, while it was introduced during kindergarten, it was naturally expected that it wasn't going to be neat by any means. So I would seriously be questioning what is going on there. Let kids be kids.

So unless you sit down with her the entire time and supervise her, there's honestly not much you can do.

Get her done some exercises of handwriting. i.e. Write first line of text yourself and let her write the following lines herself. In start she will write slowly but it is acceptable because first thing is to make her writing neat. Later on she will improve her writing speed.

constant practice makes perfect.
my father always wanted us to write neatly-which we siblings do now-so when we were children he first taught us the basics and then bought some handwriting books, then we know the basics he EVERYDAY asked us to copy two long paragraphs from the newspaper, books or whatever reading material is around, he checks our notebooks everyday if our handwriting's neat or what and if not, we get to write more than two paragraphs.
sounds harsh, but people who see my handwriting praise it and i get to get a perfect score in our handwriting exercises in elementary.

i have this same problem trying to improve my own
i have done it over a week's time but it was still sloppy

Ask her to find a writing style that she likes, then have her practice writing the letters over and over still she develops a habit of writing like that. u can even make an alphabeth of lower and upper case letters for her if your handwriting is neat. also make her write number too. trust me... depending on how u do it, it may or maynot work.

Make her slow down, focus and stop being playful while she is learning to write. Spend more time with her practicing writing. But most of all remember, she is just 5. Her attention span is that of a squirrel. Just be patient, work with her and she will do just fine.

Put your hand over hers and practice one letter at a time - a page of all "a's" then b's, etc. Let her get the rhythm of your hand.
Like others said, she's only nearly 5 years old. Kind of early to critique her writing. But you've got to teach/train them early.

hmmm.... let her try some penmanship books and exercises like how to draw a line straight and monitor the size, neatness, and spacing of her handwriting.

You can have her trace her name, address, or any other important information. Also, try getting a big mixing bowl and fill it with water and a little dishwashing liquid and tell her to make the bubbles as big a she can with a whisk. This helps with her motor skills. Also, try having her lace a shoe.
