I've stayed at the Wyndham in Harrisburg (Just a couple miles from Hershey).. It's a gorgeous hotel and they always have great deals. Ask about the "Entertainment Book" discount. Think we payed about $79 per night. It also includes free long distance calls and a welcome reception if you join their free club.

There is a Comfort Inn not far and maybe some other less expensive hotels. Always negotiate your room rate and ask for discounts. You're going to have a ball at Hershey Park!

I love Hershey Park! I have never stayed ON the grounds, though. If staying on the grounds is a financial burden just Google "cheap hotels near ..."
My aunt owns a bed and breakfast in PA and that's the only place that I've ever stayed in PA.

I would certainly stay outside the area and save money. I've been there a lot and we always drove there and still had time to spend the day. It's not that busy of an area really so you'll still have lots of time at the park and money to spend there.

You are smart to be a budget-concience traveller. My aunt went to Hersey PA and took tours of the factories. She bought a bag of candy in one of their gift stores. She got home and found the very same bag in her grocery store much cheaper.

if you have to accomodate a 'princess' you may not find something acceptable for less money.
my vote goes for finding something else nearby.
