John Karr and certain images of him remind some people...of Lee Harvey Oswald. It has also brought back the memories of JFKs assasination in 1963, to me.
Where were you & what were you doing (if you were living then)... when this happened?

Funny you mentioned that...the same thought ran through my mind about Karr...I thought sure some "other" nut would shoot him. Yeah, he did have a look of LH Oswald.

JFK: Yes, I remember it well...very sad day, shocking, he was so young and vibrant and gave us hope. I remember three days of drums beating, lots of ceremonial and historical messages. Tears on faces and lots of silence. People were just in a state of shock. The networks had great people in the media. TV was not the sensational stuff it is today. The media handled it very well. I worked at the telephone company and all of a sudden the entire switchboard lit up like a Christmas tree. People didn't know what to do or who to call...so they called the Operator to tell her.. That's how we learned about it. In those days if 10 people picked up the phone at the same exact time...the phones would go dead, no dial tone because there was not enough equipment to handle overloads. We had to instruct people not to use their phones unless it was an emergency. I remember being extremely fatigued at the end of the week of ceremonies. It took a lot out of everyone.

Even 9/11 as bad at that was did not compare to the jFK assassination for me...but I believe it was because I was young and it was the first traumatic world event of my lifetime. On 9/11 my thought was "the culture changes today." It did..

I was in 5th grade. They announced over the PA system that President Kennedy had been shot. During that era we were allowed to pray in school (thank God!), so we prayed for him, not knowing he was already dead. And we prayed for our country. I was old enough to understand how awful his assassination was for our country. (I don't see the similarity between Lee Harvey Oswald and John Mark Karr. I don't think they resemble each other at all.)

You have got to be kidding. The universe of people here are definately not in the 50s to remember what they were doing in 1963. People born that year would be 43 and anybody who can remember that day would be at least 50. Doubt they are using yahoo answers based on some of the questions asked.

Me, not even a glimmer in my parents eyes yet.

I was in my seventh grade music class. My teacher was called to the office for a phone call. When he came back, he blurted out that the president had been shot. To this day, I can remember the shock and anger on my teacher's face. All of us were in shock.
