What isn't clear is, do you have a sound card and speakers?
Do you have a CD-Rom? Does it have a earphone jack on the front, so you can add a headset? Do you have any Music CDs?
Let's assume that you have none of these.
1 - go to the store and buy a sound card and speakers. Even a store like STAPLES should have one. It is likely that you will need a PCI Sound Card.
2. Now the hard part... Remove the power cord, and figure out how to get inside the computer. Every model is different. You will need a phillips screwdriver. You should find an empty slot.
For details, the sound card came with instructions. It will even show you pictures, which I can't do.
3. Plug in the speakers. Again, the directions that came with the sound card and speakers should be clear.
4. When you turn the computer on for the first time, you will continue to follow the sound card instructions for installing their driver software.
5 You should also see a volume control control on the task bar near the TIME OF DAY display on the lower right side. Click once, and a volume slider appears. When you CLICK on it, and let go, you should hear SOUND. As you adjust the volume, let go again to confirm the sound level.
If you have a Music CD, insert that and try to PLAY it.
Good luck

1. Shut down the computer.
2. Leave the computer plugged into the surge suppressor.
3. Disconnect all peripherals from the computer.
4. Remove the cover of the chassis.
5. Ground yourself to the computer. If you have a grounding strap, put it on and follow its directions. Otherwise, ground yourself by touching a metal part of the chassis.
6. Remove the back panel, if necessary.
7. Remove the existing sound card, if any. Put the new sound card into that slot if it will fit physically. Skip to Step 11.
8. If the computer doesn't already have a sound card, find an open PCI slot. PCI slots are smaller than ISA slots.
9. Knock out or unscrew the metal plate on the card's slot holder on the back panel.
10. Insert the sound card gently but firmly into the slot. Rock it into position if necessary, but don't force it. Don't touch any connectors on the card.
11. Connect cables from the CD-ROM drive to the sound card.
12. Replace the back panel and any removed screws. Screw sound card into slot holder if it has a screw hole.
13. Reconnect monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Connect speakers to the sound card's ports.
14. Turn on the speakers and restart the computer.
15. If Windows detects the sound card upon startup, follow instructions to install the card's driver and additional software. If Windows doesn't detect sound card, manually complete the installation using the Add New Hardware control panel.
16. Play music CD to test sound card.
17. Shut down computer.
18. Replace cover of computer. Reboot computer.

Buy a sound card...try TigerDirect. Then turn off the computer and install the sound card into a free slot. Turn on the computer and install the driver and you're good to go.

Did you ever have sound? If so, dbl clk on the speaker icon near the clock and see if the MUTE box is checked. If so, UNcheck it.
You can go to: Start / Programs / Accessories / Sound Recorder for a sound test.

You need to buy a sound card. First thing you need to do is check what kind of slots you have in your computer. Either ISA or PCI. Then you will have to buy a sound card. I would recommend one by soundblaster.
