Skunks themselves do not stink. They have a gland that they use to protect themselves from preditors. They use this gland to spray their preditor in order to defend themselves. Although cute, the smell has gathered a lot of attention by animals and people when they see a black animal with either 1 solid stripe or a double bar, they know to stay away. I have owned a decented pet Skunk. They make good pets. A mixture between the playfulness of a pup and the curiousity of a kitten.

no; my name is pansyskunk; i'm an expert. I used to have two skunks for pets and they are adorable. they only stink if they spray and they don't want to spray, it takes all their energy. Now, mind you if you frighten them or terrorize them they will let their stink bag go. However, they are very smart and voracious little eaters.

One got under our house when I was a kid. It stunk horribly and there was a burning sensation to the air that caused our eyes to sting. It was nauseating. It smells very different up close than the skunks you smell while driving or something.

Well if you want to get technical, they have a scent gland that is the real source of their odors. But even if you have them descented they still have a mild musky smell. They are in same family as weasels.
