I own a 1969 Honda Trail 70. it has real bad compression and dies at full throttle, so i wanted to replace the piston and rings. I have got a used piston that looks great, with the rings already on it. is it as easy as taking the old piston off and putting the new one on....or are there steps i have to take in order to replace the piston and rings? how do you replace the piston and rings in a 1969 honda trail 70? or how else could i improve the compression or fix the problem of this bike?

That is actually a really good bike, worth restoring,,,if it's in very good condition, it could bring in a nice chunk of change to a collector (as those bikes,,the 50 & the 70 ) are now collector items,,,,It should be a fairly easy replacement,,,although it would pay off to have a reputable mechanic give the whole bike a go over,,,unless of course it's beat to hell,,and you just want to fix it good enough to beat it some more,,,((( those are the bikes you used to see everyone scurrying around the Dragstrips on )))

The fact that you've asked if this rebuild is an easy job, tells me you don't have enough experience to do it without running into complications. Here are a few things you'll have to contend with -
-Check piston to cylinder clearance
-Check ring end gap
-Adjust cam shaft timing
-Adjust valve clearance
I don't recommend you attempting this job without a shop manual.

If you decide to do the work yourself, order the head & base gaskets and circlips for the wrist pin. Have the parts at home before starting the job. You can always ask questions here. Good luck.
