I have invented a fridge spotlight, that takes the place of the usual light. When you open the door the spotlight chooses a product to shine on and sets off a microchip in the products container that relays a voice to the loudspeaker in the fridge and tells you if the product has passed its sell-by date. Obviously, I will have to talk to the food packaging industry but I think Osram will go for it.

Good luck, it sounds like a good idea, although will I be able to see the stuff that's not out of date?
