It varies widely depending on whether you're hiring an adult or a teen, how many kids they'll be watching, the ages of the kids, what other responsibilities they'll have (cleaning, providing meals, driving the kids somewhere) and where you live. I know the usual hourly wage for sitters was widely different between my hometown and the city where I went to college, so location can be a big factor in the going rate. Ask other parents in your area what they pay, and ask various sitters what they'd expect to be paid for the type of childcare you require and work from there.

Depends on how old your kids are, and how old the baby sitter is,and what they are expected to do.
For example, I usually pay my 15 year old niece about $25-$30 for an entire night (dinner until midnight or so) with my 2 year old daughter. However, she usually spends the night with us, so we can stay out later.
But, if you have a 13 year old coming in for an hour or two in the afternoon or something like that, I would pay about $6-8 an hour.
It just depends.

Depends on if your talking about an 8-5 type sitter or a sitter for a night out with the hubby... I am in NC... here most 8-5 type sitters average 20-30 bucks a day...but for a night out with the hubby.. I supply pizza and snacks and usually give my sitter 10-20 bucks... depends on how long he is here. He is 24 and sometimes refuses money.. I can sometimes get away with a pack of cigs and give him a hair cut....

where I live, I pay $5.00 an hour for a 18 month old and 3 yr old boy. I think an average for younger children would be $2.50 to $3.00 for one child, and $2.00 to $2.50 for an older child.

there are a lot of factors that could determine that- age, number of children, other responsabilities like a child with special needs. Talk it over with your sitter and come to an agreement on what they are expected to do and come to an agreement

A good one can get up to $12 an hour. But inexperience will get you about $8 an hour. Please remember these are your children so pay top dollar cause you get what you pay for.
