You are remembered in a fond way and talked about amongst the staff for the rest of the day for it. Your face is stared at through whatever hidden windows there are so the others will know what you look like. Everyone will treat you like royalty the next time you walk in the door.
I know. Trust me.

I'm only one person, so I'm not sure my opinion stretches to cover everyone. I have done the thankless job of waiting tables, it's very nice when someone recognizes that it is hard work with a good tip. I was fortunate enough not to work some place that pays a cut-rate hourly wage (like $1.50/hour) plus tips, or at some place that does tip-pools where all tips for the night are divided by all the waitstaff. I can't imagine how tough it is for these folks trying to make a living by depending on the generousity of strangers! Now that I'm the "grown-up", I tip well unless the service is completely unreasonible.

I left a $100.00 tip once in a restaurant in NYC but I have some food allergies and the waiter went out of his way to check the ingrediants in their food (at the Hard Rock Cafe) to make sure I was able to eat what I ordered without getting sick. I just wish the waiter could of kept the money for himself rather than sharing the $100.00 with all the other tipped employees.

I used to be a waitress. If I'd had customers like you I would've enjoyed my job and life better at that time.
Excellent tips means either the service was above expectations, customers appreciate the job you do, the food and the beverages were of excellent quality or just sympathy...
What did I think about such a customer ? That one day will return...and the service will be the same or better...and he/she it's a nice person...a pleasure to serve in our restaurant.

Usually my husband and I get good waitresses; but recently, we got a horrible one. She first wrote down all the wrong things; I wanted a cesar salad with ranch dressing; a veggie burger with no mayo, and an ice water. My husband ordered just a burger and a coke. She brought out a HUGE chicken salad with a TON of ranch all over it; a chicken sandwich with EXTRA mayo, and a lemonade, then she brought out a biscuit and gravy meal for my husband with a large milk. I was appalled and demanded to speak to the manager. Not only did they bring out our food correctly, the waitress was "relieved from her duties for the day" right then and there. We got our meal, dessert, and a pie to take home free. Needless to say, our waitress got no tip, but my husband handed a 50 to the manager and thanked him. But generaly, I like to tip about 8-10 bucks for 2 people and 15 for up to 8.

There's nothing better than being recognized for doing a job well...except being recognized with cash!
I like to tip big when someone deserves...unfortunately I usually can barely afford the meal! It's great that you are able to do that.

i tip accordingly, if they are good they get a good tip, if they are great then they get a bigg tip, if the suck.... wellll.... you get the picture.
the worst waiter ever treated me and my buds like **** cause we where still in our work close, but when we each broke a hundered at the bar for drinks he started to treat us better but still looked down on us so his tip was a penny in a glass full of water upside down on the table!!!

if it is from an unknown customer, i assume that the dining expereience must have been excellent or the person was just being generous.
if it is from some regular customer that i have waited on many times, i assume it is because they are appreciative or generous
