My question: Why are the drug-free people so mistrusting? If there's no indications or reason for them to suspect he's on drugs, why should he get tested more for drugs?

How does this violate your rights as a parent?
I don't see anything wrong with this. If he doesn't do drugs he has nothing to hide and the tests will only confirm that. And if he will start taking drugs sometime at least it is likely to be discovered fast so the problem can be sorted before it gets too serious.
If he wants to join his group you should just be happy about it and give your consent for it. There is no harm in an occational urine test. All the members will have to take them.

Yes, it's a violation of both you and your son's rights. Drug testing is supposed to be confidential, known only by the tester and one or two people getting the results. But in a group like this, if it's a requirement for joining and he takes the test and it comes up positive (for whatever reason), then he can't join and the whole group knows the reason why. That's an invasion of your son's privacy. Encourage your son to join a group that doesn't require "Big Brother" tactics like this!

I don't understand your statement that a urine test would in no indicate drug usage. Urine tests are perfectly valid and are used for screening purposes in any number of industries. Anyway, as far as any body's rights being violated, you might check with a law firm, but I think you'll find that, since this is a group your son would be joining voluntarily, and because they say up front that drug tests are a condition of membership, no ones rights are being violated.

I certainly can relate to your aggrivation. But think of the big picture, unfortunately in this day and age there is too much exposure to drugs and violence, geez the kids are shooting each other in school, committing suiside, pumping up on steroids just to play football, its really sad what its all come to.
He is freely joining a drug free group and the point of the test is to affirm that they are drug free. Kind of a Practice what you Preach deal. I would actually look at it as a sence of security because its not only him, but the group that he will hang out with. You may know your son but wouldnt you take comfort in knowing for certain that his friends were truly drug free too?
Have a great day.

I think that it is a violation of your rights as well as your childs. I would personally never let my child join a group that wanted to do that. It is really sad what things have come to these days. Schools really have no business doing things like that. As a parent that is your job and your choice if you want to test your son. I would deffiantly look for different options that did not require something so rediculous for your son to join.
Think about how discusting and innapropriot that is. The school wants your son to pee in a cup. They want his pee. To me, that is gross and a violation of personal privacy. They are actually asking your son to take his penis out and urinate in a cup and then give them the cup so they can do who knows what with it. If it were my son, I would tell them to stop thinking about my sons private body parts.

your son minds well get used to the testing as it is also done for employment purposes, and is done in sports. It would be a good way to keep him clean from drugs. Why would anyone object to doing this??? If he's doing drugs this test will bring it out and you can get him help quickly by having this info in hand.

Work is vastly different than private life. Yes they are violating your rights and the rights of your son. What would be next? Proving to them, the group is more important than his parents, his school , his country etc. This could be a very dangerous path to embark on if given in to.

It would be a violation unless your school words it like my kids school did. Something like "You must submit to random drug tests IF you choose to participate in sports, any extra-curricular activities (go to games and dances), band, chorus, etc, etc.
So basically, if your child wants to have a life at school, he must accept these conditions. You might get a copy of your school's handbook and read what they say regarding this policy.
