In the wild
roborovski hamsterIn the wild the Roborovski Hamsters are sociable living in groups.
They live in a staight burrow within the sand dunes which can extend from between 50cm to 150cm in length and the entance is usually covered in soft sand.
They sleep during the day, waking only for short periods. They are nocturnal and awake at dusk, being active at night. Their sight is poor but their sense of smell and hearing are very acute and they rely heavily on these senses to recognise each other and their environment.
In Captivity
In captivity the Roborovski Hamster is a sociable pet and is best kept with others of its own kind as to keep them singly is thought to shorten its lifespan and make them agitated. They can be kept in single sex or mixed sex pairs or groups if breeding is intended.
Due to their small size Roborovski Hamsters are able to squeeze through the bars of many commercial hamster cages.
Roborovski Hamsters are extremely fast, active and agile and therefore require a large cage with plenty of space and toys to amuse them in order to prevent behavourial problems developing.
The Roborovski Hamster is nocturnal but is often active for short periods during the day.

dwarf hamsters are pack animals and should be kept in 2's or in groups.
however, if the hamsters were not introduced to each other at a young age they will most likely fight which can cause death.
i would just really spoil your hamster and get it a big cage with lots of toys and stuff.
also, ask in your local pet shop because it is likely that they will have hamsters at home or if not they will no more.
good luck x

most of these people are either guessing or thinking of syrian hamsters which r solitary. YES, ideally they prefer company. the link below even states keeping them alone is thought to shorten its lifespan and make them agitated. ideally though u shouldve bought one from the same litter because it may fight with one from a another litter. if it is already a yr old it may be too late to introduce a new friend. just make sure theyre the same sex if u do try! watch for fighting and separate if it's serious. there r enough homeless hamsters in the world!
this type is more for watching than playing with

Obviously you don't want him to be lonely but from the sounds of things if you do get another one, they will end up fighting and you don't want them to hurt each other. On the other hand, you could make them a fighting ring and boxing gloves and see who wins-make some money and because of the gloves they won't hurt each other. Just make sure you make 'no biting' one of the rules! Just an idea.

it may well be lonely but unless you want a/ a dead hamster b/ lots of babies or c/you have a big area for them to live in and a possible dead hamster and/or babies keep it on its own and just keep him company yourself.
