The ONLY way to upgrade RAM or Processor is to install them into the notebook. BUT, you should have a professional install a new CPU. Notebooks are easily damaged if you don't know what you are doing.

For upgrading RAM, there are two ways. One is to take it to a professional to install on the Motherboard. The USER RAM install is usually a small square door on the bottom of the Notebook that has a single screw. Open the door and install the proper RAM. Very few notebooks can take more than one RAM card. Most only have one slot. So, buy the RAM that has the most MB you can afford.

Make sure the new RAM/Processor IS compatible with the notebook. Otherwise, you are wasting your money.

Computers ARE NOT telepathic. They cannot recognize new components until they are installed.

actually , you can put them straight ito the notebook , but check if the existing hardware supports the processor and ram . Sometimes the mother board might not be able to support ram after a certail level ( it may be 1gb or 1.5gb for example)
Actually replacing parts in a laptop is not very simple , so it will be better if ask some pro to do it .

And just as an additional info .. processor and ram do not need any operating system to install them .. the BIOS in the mother board does it automatically
