Some restaurants are considering going to a "kid free" enviroment. Do you think this is a good idea or bad idea? Would it be ok in certain situations?

I think kid free restaurants are great!!! When I am out with friends or having a nice dinner and drinks I don't want little kids crying, screaming, jumping on their seats, poking their heads around the corner etc while I am trying to have a nice night out. Certain places are great for this rule, other places like family restaurants I could care less. Those are for kids and familes let them do what they want.

I have my own child and he can be a monster esp. when we go out and eat, so certain places I will bring him others I will not, out of consideration for others and to keep my sanity!!!

On one hand, I think it's a good idea because I would be more likely to visit a restaurant like that for special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries. It gets VERY ANNOYING listening to someone's child crying and screaming while you're trying to enjoy a romantic evening or celebrate an adult birthday. Yes, I know that you can't always stop a child from crying or screaming, but common courtesy dictates that you don't make everyone within a 100 foot radius of you listen to your screaming child, so you either take the child out or don't bring the child in the first place (problem is Americans as a whole are short on common courtesy). On the other hand, having a restaurant that is "kid free" may be deemed a discriminatory policy, despite the fact that most restaurants reserve the right to refuse service to anyone. I really believe any restaurant that advertised as an "adults only" venue would come under fire for it. Personally, I would show my support, but I might be in the minority...

Its not a bad idea, some people don't like kids, and some people let their kids run all over the place. I don't know about banishing children, but segregating them from people that don't want to be around them isn't bad. Here in Georgia, if a restaurant wants to have a smoking section, it has to be completely partitioned off and have a seperate ventilation system. People 18 and under aren't allowed in these rooms or smoking establishments. It would be very similar

It's a great idea. I have kids and I'm sorry but any parent that says this idea is bad because they can always control their kids in public places is just a blatant liar!! No one can always control their kids just like no one can always control adults!! Even the best behaved children have their moments and by having an adult only restaurant, one knows that they won't hear a crying child in the middle of the second course.

It's sad that all kids have to be banned just because some parents haven't taught theirs how to behave in restaurants. We've taken ours with us since they were infants, and they are as well behaved as any adult in the place. That being said, nothing is more upsetting than a child running all over the restauant disturbing other diners. The restaurants are taking a responsibility belonging to the parents. As parents, we need to teach our children appropriate social skills. My kids acted out in restaurants a couple times when they were young. I took them to the restroom, and corrected their behavior. After that, I would simply ask them if they needed to go to the bathroom when they were misbehaving and it stopped. Some restaurants are not very kid friendly. They don't have much on the menu that kids would enjoy, so that would contribute to restless behavior. In the end though, parents need to be responsible for their children's behavior and respectful of the other diners.

I don't think they should go kid free because most people now adays eat fast food anyway. especially if they have kids. Maybe its me but I do not see as many kids in resturants as I used to. Mostly because parents are not spending the quality time with them. So it is nice to see a family going out to eat together. Now a seperate room or area is not so bad being it would give the tolerence for kids which they need being they do get over active at times.

Thank God! When and where?
I can't wait. I think there are plenty of kid focused restuarants but not enough adult ones.

It is hard to find a quiet place to eat nowadays. I don't have kids and I want to eat with my husband and talk and it seems like there is some screaming child everywhere we go. I am actually considering starting a family soon but everytime I go out, I start re-thinking the idea.

I was a waitress for many years. I cannot tell you how many children I have seen laying in the aisle, walking in to the kitchen, screaming and crying and just reeking havoc overall. There should be places where this not allowed and people can spend their hard earned money on a meal that they can actually eat and enjoy. If parents did not let their kids run wild I might feel differently but many of them just do not make even a tiny attempt to restrain them.

I love children! That being said, I think it is a good to have adult only restaurants. They have game rooms at fast food places for kids only. A lot of pizza places are geared mostly for kids. If they do that, I think the rest. would have to show that it wants to do an adult themed place as opposed to just not wanting children around.

Sure.. I think it would be great idea... Don't get me wrong I LOVE kids... but they can really spoil the mood... just as there was a smoking and a non-smoking section, much the same should be done for kids.....just have a separate room at least where the kids aren't being loud and roudy... though an adult can be just as annoying sometimes......
