The Williams Renault FW15, An F1 car ahead of its time. Never the fastest car in a straight line, but round a race track it was too fast! Unreliable due to the amount of technology onboard! Banned after the Senna accident '94.

Not a big Ford fan but the Ford GT40 back in the 60's was one of the most influential cars ever made. It showed that American made cars could outperform the dominate European cars during the time. Ferrari eat your heart out.

the bugatti veyron will smoke ANYTHING (including SLRs, Saleens, and Ferraris) on the road today and is street legal. but plan on spending more than an arm and a leg, ur soul maybe; its worth 1 million something. but it will outperform anything and definitely everything thts been posted here so far. so tht is not the best but the ultimate racing car ever, in terms of sheer performance.

Porsche 917.
Hands down.
It's taken 30 years for car technology to get back to the same level as that car.
