The monitor could also be a fairly expensive component if it is the latest and greatest.

In general, however, there are not many single components that cost $300 for the average laptop.

A laptop can cost $1000 or even $600. So if you ask which part of the laptop can cost 300 dollars,I would say that screen,CD Drive,keyboard and Monitor.

Replacement LCD display. The ones I've see start at around $400 at a discount computer parts store.
Ditto for the processor.

The display can get pricey, depending on how big the screen is and the quality of the picture.
