I know at least 3 paramedics who use weed after they come home from work and on their days off. I think its fine, because marijuana is not particularly harmful, they don't show up to work high, and they are all excellent paramedics who are able to preform their jobs up to the same expectations of everyone else. If it does not interfere with their job and professionalism, short and long term, then I see nothing wrong with it. I don't use drugs, but I do believe marijuana should be legalized due to the fact that it impairs you less then alcohol, and is less harmful than cigarettes.
And for the record we are paramedics or EMTs not ambulance drivers. People working in EMS find it insulting to be called ambulance drivers because it implies that we are not highly trained medical professionals.

er, in england the police already do random testing, cuz they publish the fact that they tested x many hundred, and all were clean. but this brings into question the validity of the testing doesnt it. staticstically one could have expect a few cases, but to have none at all... whats happened did they know prior to the test, or were they using drugs like heroin, which as they know only remains inthe blood stream for 24hours.
and, lets be clear about one thing. it depends on your ability to do the job at hand, and not be impaired thru drugs or alcohol, so one spliffy, or one pint, off duty, isnt going to make a lot of difference to how you behave and operate whilst on duty. and theyre professionals... they dont do the job for its high pay, its vocational. but its incredibly stressfull, its dangerous, and at each and every jjob, you can be injured and die.. (999 services) and these guys do it day in day out, for years and years.. and if you cant unwind, youll explode eventually.
yes, of course there should be checks and balances, but for years coppers have been hiding the whiskey in the filing cabinet... and doing a good enough job.
but, drinking and driving is not on. and to be honest, england ought to introduce a zero alcohol policy, at least it would take the guesswork out of driving, and if it takes you say 6 pints to be drunk, after 2 pints youre 1/3 pished..occifer...

None. I'm in the RAF, worked with the fire Brigade before and know a few paramedics. We all have random Compulsory drug tests at work, so anyone foolish enough to take drugs would be found ut quickly.

I only know one policeman.......my neighbor and he isn't into drugs.
I dont' know any ambulance drivers, doctors, or firemen personally.
I don't know any pilots or surgeons either.
At the local high school several teachers were fired this year because they failed the drug tests. One boy died at a teachers house due to a drug overdose. She was also fired.

About 4 years back I was in a circle of friends & 1 of them was a paramedic. He was deep in the drugs. He used Cocaine, Cat & ecstacy. It always baffled me since he witnesses overdoses everyday. Oh well I suppose its ok now cos he's off it

Oh yeah it goes on alright, but bear in mind that it is a very very small minority so don't tar them all with the same brush. I've seen the sharp end of the stick and that's all I'm prepared to say.

What approximately percription drugs? human beings can abuse them, have undesirable section effects and die from them too. a lot of folk take percription drugs that don't actually have a percription for them does that make it ok basically using fact they are criminal? drugs that are unlawful the place you reside could be allowed someplace else so its difficult to declare.

NONE. If any of these people use drugs, they most certainly would not admit it, even if caught red handed.
