As a Millwall fan i knew Thatcher when he started his career at our club. The bloke was a thug then and is a thug now .He is just an animal who deliberately takes out other players. The FA should ban him for a lot longer than they banned ferdinand for missing a dope test.As for Pearces comments he is just a manger trying to protect his player.

The pace certainly didn't make it any better, it was a terrible attack and Ben Thatcher has done this before. It is a pity because he is a good defender, just reckless. Stuart Pearce has to answer for him so is probably trying to make the best out of a bad situation.

pearce should know better he comes across as a heart on his sleeve kind of man , i watched him in the eighties when he put a liverpool player(craig johnson) over the advertising boards at the city ground, when craig johnson had pulled his teeth out the tarmac and combed his perm, pearce brushed him off and shook his hand ,so why does he not take his matured principles and obvious eye defects and explain to harry redknapp why it looked worse because of the pace ??????????

Is he sticking up for him cause he's English... I think this is the old English 4-1-4-1 formation, he may be tying to bring it back.
You should check out those 'Greame Sounes' videos, it's like 'hooligan porn' rock on the eighties... it was an incredible tackle, i'm surprised 'Ben Thatcher' is still in football.

Pearce used to be a heavy tackler (on his day that is)...
He should try to bow out of the conversation just be diplomatic.

What a load of rubbish. Thatcher elbowed Mendes deliberately and you can't defend that in any way. The only manager who wouldn't condemn that if it was one of his players is Wenger, but he probably wouldn't have seen it.

Everyone's got their own opinion, but Pearce shouldn't be condoning something like that, what if it was one of his players that was injured?
