The circuit is for my garage. The circuit breaker is not tripped but there is no power anywhere along this particular circuit. No lights, no power in the outlets, nothing. Everything else in the house is OK. I tried re-setting the breaker but that had no effect.

Some breaker handles need to be pushed all the way off with some force, then pushed to the on position to properly reset. Try that. If that doesn't work, it's time for a little diagnostic work with a VOM or voltage sensor in your hand. Next most likely problem is an open (failed) breaker.

1 turn the breaker completely to the off position.then turn the breaker back on. most of the new breakers trip to a middle position and appear on but are not.

2. take a lamp and go to each outlet on that circuit and plug it in. try each outlet till you find one that works.

once you find the working outlet turn the circuit breaker OFF then open the outlet.

check the wiring in this outlet.

Black is the HOT wire. this carries the power.
White is the RETURN wire. this completes the path back to the power panel.
Bare copper is the GROUND wire. this provides the path to the power panel also.

if the wiring appears to be connected correclty(all wires tight)

go to the very next outlet, either to the left or right. outlets are usualy within 6ft (if in the U.S.)

check the wiring for loose connections. use a cross #2 or slotted srewdriver to tighten the loose wires.

** before opening any outlet, check for power using your lamp,(even if you turned the breaker off)

these are the easiest fixes for a novice.
if this does not fix the problem then you will need to contact an electrician.
unless you KNOW what you are doing DO NOT go inside the back of the power panel

REMEMBER safety first. electricity can kill you if you do not respect it.

if you have a meter go to an outlet install the red lead in the smaller of the slots .install the black lead in the larger of the slots you should have a reading of 120 volts .if you dont than touch the black lead to ground [the box or the bare ground wire] if you now have 120 volts than its a bad nuteral

a receptacle in a garage is usually a gfi or ground fault receptacle.all the circuits after the gfi will shut off if it trips.find the gfi receptacle and reset the button on the receptacle.if it doesn't reset you probably have a bad gfi and need to replace it.
