Had your first experience with a lackmus paper? I still remember that feeling.
Well probably because there are several formulae that will do the same thing - clean your teeth - and still be so different that they have different pH.
Compare with cleaning agent, some are acid, some are basic, but they still do their work.

tooth past is normally basic and it is good to wash with a dilute acid as vinegar because basic wont remove all things and the acid will strip the rest of the stuff off.

we use toothpastes to clean our teeth from food scraps, some food may be acidic others contain alkalies
