Could be several problems, the most common is a firewall problem. Are you getting any messages when you try to view someones web cam. What version of yahoo are you using? You can turn your firewall off while viewing and reset it after you are done.

I know this may sound stupid, but try this..
Close Yahoo! Messenger and restart the application..
Before signing in select "Connection Preferences" and set your connection to "Firewall with no proxies" -- Sometimes that fixes that kind of stuff. Lemmy know how it works (append to ur message and ill watch out)

To see the webcam of your friend who is on line, click on Action on your Messenger and then click on view webcam. If your friend accept, you can start seeing the webcam. Similarly if you want invite him to see your webcam, click on the invite to view my webcam. Make sure that your webcam is connected properly. Sometimes you will be be asked to indicate your internet connection, i.e. dial-up, broadband etc. Select the appropriate connection.

well, it's either their webcam is configured not to automatically transmit to you unless your chatmate presses something to make it start transit images or video to you.

you can tell if they have a webcam if you can see a "view my webcam" beside their name. if they invite for a chat, it doesn't automatically assume that there will be video in the chat. you have to click "webcam" to have the webcam window appear and your friend's images come to your pc.

Maybe your version of Messenger is not the same as your friend. Try to check with your friend what version they're using and update yours to that version.
