I think I'd love to be best buds with JD from "Scrubs." The way I see it, he's just as immature as me.......loves to do the unimaginable....have fun.......go out on a limb......but he's brilliant! I love watching him change gears from the little boy to the amazing doctor. It takes a true talent to do that. Perhaps that is why he is merely a character. *sigh* But my vote is for JD!

What about you?

Rhoda Morgenstern. Even just watching the show, I felt like she was exactly the right person to fit into my group of friends, and would be so much fun to know! Wacky, a little bit hippy without all the negatives of that culture - very much the same place that I was at in that point in time, and she definitely gets my vote!
LOL

I have been thinking about this question and I had to go outside and just sit for a while and mull.
Most tv characters are at best 2 dimensional and most are really one trick ponies.
I will say that the character I would want most as a friend is Earl Hickey from the show "My Name is Earl". He's a guy who had an epiphany and has been fighting to right the wrongs that he has done. This takes true character as he really isn't a very courageous person he just has tremendous tenacity. He is loyal to his friends including a very terrible ex wife and takes care of his slow but well meaning brother. He tries his darnedest to make things right with his dad who has gotten off on the wrong foot with many times. I admire his dedication to his mission and his selflessness even when he feels very much not like doing something. He seems to be the sort of person who makes a friend for life(and some of his buddies seem to be doing life).

This is easy Gene Simmons from Family Jewels. He's tactful in an untactful way and isn't afraid to say it like it is. He's never used drugs and he's matter of fact about child rearing. Never married with Shannon Tweed for 15 years he's focused on keeping his word. It would be him or House on House the guy who let Sela Ward get away and pushed a crippled guy in wheelchair over. He's stuborn and onery but likeable classic. Giving himself a migraine to and injecting anti-migraine syrum to prove it didn't work thats dedication.

Great question, soooo many possible answers. Thought about Paul and Jamie Buchman at first, but who wants to be best friends with people that into each other? :oD
The Doctor, of course, from Doctor Who...would give me the chance to see what becomes of humanity, whether we ever get our act together and who else is out there. Downside of that of course is that most of whoever's out there tends to want to kill you or freeze you or turn you to slime...soooo maybe notsomuch.

Nah, on balance, I think it would have to be Toby Ziegler, Communications Director at the Bartlett Whitehouse for much of the President's two terms. A quiet-talking man with firm beliefs, a very low BS threshold and a fanatical approach to grammar, who also brings an absurdist sense of humor to his work in politics, I think Toby and I would be able to spend many many hours in conversation, and save everyone else from having to nod amiably and wish we would just go away now...

Hercule Poirot.

Like Cpt. Hastings, I wouldn't have to do much but be available for providing Poirot with car rides and occasionally ask him obviously erroneous questions (a specialty of mine already) so Hercule could go "Ah-ha! The little grey cells have..." or some such thing. BUT... by being his friend I'm always invited to the swankiest parties, get to travel, and have Miss Lemon around to flirt with. Perfect.
