Since it's not healthy for anyone to smoke cigarettes ever, of course's it not good for her now that she's pregnant. In addition to her health risks, the nicotine and other harmful components of tobacco smoke damage the developing fetus and cause decreased blood flow to the placenta and retard growth.

There is no safe amount of smoking, period, and since second-hand smoke will harm the baby, stopping now for the entire household is the best choice.

It is never health or safe to smoke at all, period. Doing it when pregnant is even worse as its not just herself she is hurting. The carbon monoxide in the smoke she inhales reduces the oxygen passed to the baby. The drugs that go into her blood from the smoke pass over the placenta to the baby too. So the baby is stewing in addictive drugs, carcinogens and carbon monoxide. The results can include premature and underweight births, brain damage, death and other nasties. Nice.

Well it's a little better than jumping off a 4 story building. But, I'm pretty sure the medical community would back me up on this--smoking or smoking around her is not a good thing.

No it is not, although many babies are born seemingly healthy many are also born underweight and a small percentage may suffer birth defects. Your wife should quit smoking and never take it up again. If she smokes then her children are 100 times as likely to smoke than if she didn't

It is never healthy to smoke cigarettes.

However, I have known a lot of poeple who smoked through pregnancy with no complications at all.

The worst thing is that if there is a complication, the doctors will blame it on smoking without looking into the real cause.

I smoked during my second pregnancy. My baby came early, under weight, and with asthma. I quit smoking with my first pregnancy. He came at 8lbs11oz and hasn't a problem in the world.

No. But if she was a heavy smoker before she got pregnant quitting cold turkey could be harmful to the baby as well. She needs to wheen herself off of nicotene. The stress of just quitting can cause an array of bad things. But continuing to smoke can also cause harm.

how far up your *** are your brains??? when the child is born, will your self centered wife use a cigarette butt on the bottle instead of a nipple? the unborn child doesn't have a choice, your wife does. it is beyond my comprehension that such a ridiculous question can even be asked, do you value a healthy life?

NO, if she smokes she restricts the amount of oxygen flow to the baby. You should already know about these things, these are not new findings.
