Images are permanently applied to the mugs. You may be able to scape off the image with a sharp razor blade but you'll have to deal with an "unsealed" mug then. So, I'd say, forget it.

Try using pure acetone to remove it (it'll be in the makeup section right beside the nailpolish remover). If acetone won't work, I don't think anything will.

You can't it's part of the glaze. Just buy new mugs.
