they can be good friends, but i doubt they can be the best of friends. the closeness can open lots of opportunities for further examination and this keen observation about the other particularly his/her good qualities can also present itself as an attraction which can be translated into something sexual. it will be such a rare occassion to be in total control whenever this situation comes around and that's very fortunate to be maintaining the relationship on a friendship level - yes it can be done, with iether of you committed to somebody else, but again that's very rare.

It gets in the way because there will always come a point when they wonder if they could be more than friends, or if they could handle sex being part of the relationship.
That's why I don't recommend guys and gals be best friends. It's just not possible, if you two are both attracted to the opposite sex and desire to one day be married. You will attempt to cross that threshold at some point, and if you 2 have already decided you're in the "friend zone" only, it will only ruin it. However, even with that knowledge, you just can't help but wonder.
Sex outside of marriage has ruined enough dating relationships, friendships are even more fragile when it comes to this.

Sex doesn't always get in the way of good friends, it all boils down to how you have been together through the friendship, if you have placed each other is positions of stepping over the line, then its only normal to cross over if the feelings are present. Sometimes, the feelings are there from the start and no matter what, sex was going to come into it at some stage, but I also know that two people of opposite sex can be excellent friends without the sex being involved as there has been an openess between them about their respective partners and the relationship they hold with those partners.

Hmm... there's a tough question. But, i suppose that's like asking: why do dogs bark and cats mew?
I suppose i'd have to say that since it's only NATURAL for a guy and a girl to be together sexually and symultaneously have an emotional connection (unless it's a one-night-stand) as well... that's why, even when a guy and a girl are friends, sex does get involved at some point.
Isn't that what we call Love? An emotional connection SO strong that it actually draws both partners together and finally enables them to... uh... do 'the act'.
It's something most women fantacise about i suppost...
Anyway, another name for a state when there is extreme trust between both partners is friendship. Sex is the only instinctual next step, if you will.
Uh... that is... unless they're gay.
Do tell me how this turns out... i'm interested.

if guy is not a gay and gal is not a lesbian then y do u think sex shouldn't come in between ??
the problem is not sex but the mentality which says u need to fall in love to have sex.
so if you can get over wid this mentality and take sex is just like any other thing which u may want to try out wid ur friend then u will not loose ur frd once sex is done, its luv tht kills the friendship not sex.

Pauli, a guy and gurl can be best friends as long as they both wish with or without sex. The inclusion of sexual intercourse is nothing but a choice by the duo. And I think people should eraze this notion of "being used" in sexual intercourse. Nobody is "using" anybody. It's a medium of emotional outlet and sharing between the party involved.

It isn't always like that! And sex is always the extreme. Maybe you like them, but it doesn't have to be abou sex.
But sometimes it is hard when you have a close friend of the opposite gender, because they see you in your best and worst moments, an they're usually still there after it all! It just makes you wish that if you ever liked someone, you'd wanrt them to treat you like that in some way.

Men think about sex 10000 times a day. So if they are together with a woman AND think about sex, which is very likely, they will start thinking about sex with that woman. That's how it works.
Why do we think about sex that often? Don't know. Can't actually think about it because I've to think about sex right now. :-)

Ain't you never watched "When Harry Met Sally"? He explains it. Men want sex. A man can't be friends with a pretty girl, because he always wants to bang her. As far as ugly girls go, they pretty much want to bang them too.
Maybe, just maybe, if both people are in a serious relationship with other people, then they can be good friends.
