Sensationalism, the most far out news is the most commonly heard. You never hear about all the priests and teachers that help people but, you do hear about the bad ones. After that you associate all of them with cruelty.
It's the far out super feminists that make us nervous. Stuff like setting men on fire, and everything under the sun being an oppressive phallic symbol.
Like what republicans who want to drain the Rio Grande and think everybody who isn't a republican is a terrorist do to republicans’ record.
You hardly ever hear about feminism unless sensationalism is
involved. Basically, I just said the long way, that mutual Ignorance is one of mankind's biggest flaws.

II guess it depends in what context the word 'feminist' is used.

When someone talks of feminism a lot of people associate this with the militant feminists and man-haters and I think it's true to say that almost no-one (male or female) likes these people. You only have to look at what happens when such a person stands for election, they usually come somewhere below the National Front (Nazis) and the Loony Party. These are the people who frequently think women are superior to men and that this should be accepted as fact because they say so, not because they've been able to find any evidence to support this.

If 'feminist' is used in the context of somene wanting equality between the sexes then this is a much more acceptable principle and few people would argue that men and women don't deserve the right to be treated equally.

A lot of people seem to forget that that men and women are not equal, they never have been and never will be. This is an impossibility due to physical, sociological and psychological differences. These differences mean that women are superior in some areas and men are superior in others. If people could just accept this fact then things would be so much easier. This is nature and no matter what people think or want or what laws are put in place nature isn't going to change.

Focusing more on your question, I think what scares some men is the empowerment of women which they see as a threat to their status as being the dominant sex. For a long time women have been repressed and barriers placed in their way preventing them from reaching their true potential. In today's society these barriers are being removed and women are given the opportunity to prove that they can do more than just cook dinner and wash clothes.

First off, you need to understand that men are different than women, not just how we look, but inside we are wired differently.
If you don't realize this there's no need for you to continue reading.
Have you ever wondered why women typically live longer than men? It's the stress of life that puts men in the ground sooner.
Feminists come along a few decades ago and for the most part it was an angry group of women that were hard on the eyes and wanted equal pay for less than equal work. These women had no chance of marring someone of a different gender so they banded together to form what we all now know to be the "Femanazis".
Men have it inside themselves the responsibility to provide for the family, some will try and fight this urge but it's still in there makeup to be providers. So when the femanazis come alone and claim they are the same as men and want to be treated equal but still fight for the rights of women I say you can't have it both ways. Get rid of maternity leave the father can Care for the baby, put women on the front line in Iraq, no more women's sports if they can't make the team they don't play, one bathroom for all, and if a ship is sinking women will not be getting to the lifeboats before men. etc. etc. etc. You can't have it both ways!

Really broad question. I don't think men in general are disturbed by the average feminist. It's more the radical feminist or 'feminazi'. With men so much in control of the finances, resources and goverment in the world, I don't think they fear anything. Suppose it's just irritating.

I'm a SAHM, but I support women who work with or without raising a family too, equal pay for equal work, equal access to education and employment. I practice feminism in my own way.

We are waiting for you to attack us for no logical reason with invitation to a subject topic we have no chance of winning & didn't want to talk about in the first place. We would be more comfortable If you just helped us cook dinner with-out the competition. I think a feminist is a woman who can't accept that men actually like females & are too competitive. Relax !

There are different degrees of feminism. I'm all for equal rights but to try and establish that woman are better than men or more powerful would intimidate any man. My husband has the last say so, but my opinion is always heard and almost always right!

Women that think they can do anything a man can do are wrong. Men are better at somethings (like leadership) and woman are better at others(like nurturing). I say...

Know your role!

Men have always been used to being in a position of absolute authority. Feminists attack this system and ideology, which results in compromising men's security. Over thousands, if not millions, of years of social programming, men have always dominated (with the exception of \few matriarchal societies). Femininity seeks to topple or weaken men's total dominance. Anyone in any position of power will always be afraid to relinquish it. As such, men are instinctively cautious of women trying to take over their time-honored gender roles.

They're horrified of losing the 'superiority' that was given to them. The prospect of women being viewed as equals frightens them because most of them enjoy being able to run roughshod over us.

If anyone thinks that feminism isn't still needed, they need to look around. Women are *still* paid less for the same jobs, still passed over for men in some jobs, and men are being handed free the things that women have to struggle and work twice as hard for.

Because they are ANTI-MEN for the most part they are and all they want to do is pick out a speck in our eye but fail to see the shaft in theirs. Its ok for a women to need a guy, and its ok for WOMEN to feel insecure because in my mind thats a more femine trait than what a guy may show. Im not against women in anyway i accept them and go on with life, i think women should do the same.
