Frozen peas aren't afraid of the dark. You spend less time with the freezer door open than with the fridge door open - because it's bloody cold. Originally freezers were top loading and chest freezers so light shone in them and when they made them the same as fridges the engineers said "bugger it - they never asked for a light before - why start now". Most freezers have pull out drawers and baskets and so you can see what you're doing. Why don't fridges have those?

Because in an average day people open their refrigerator more than they do their freezer. Also the freezer is above the fridge so assuming you will have overhead lighting to guide your way. And as you may notice the side by side refrigerators have a light in the freezer compartment.

Because when you ate locked in the freezer by gangsters you don't want to be able to see yourself freezing to death. Top tip cut a 1 inch hole in your fridge door to make sure the light has gone out when you close the door.

Perhaps you need to change the bulb in the freezer as both my fridge and chest freezer has bulbs but our upright freezer doesn't I guess it's because it has drawers and you have to open them to see whats inside

I have a light in both of my freezers so apparently some highly paid engineer was thinking the same thing.

When you wake up in the middle of the night feeling like a quick snack, do you plunder the fridge or the freezer? - Ice-cream addicts excepted.
