Sounds like something got into your keyboard controls it might be a virus. Try running several different virus scans on your computer such as ewido and AVG also Ad-Aware SE is a good one and they all have free editions you can find on the web. If this problem continues go buy or borrow anther persons keyboard and if that straitens it out then you just have a faulty keyboard. But if none of these work take your computer to a repair shop and they should be able to fix it for you rather fast. I hope this helps you.

I had the same problem with my keyboard. Try to set the language as English and after restarting the PC see if @ is where it has to be. If it doesn't work just change your keyboard (it seems to be the best choice).

The answers about the regional settings are correct. You don't have a virus and you don't need to buy a new keyboard. Had this problem myself when i bought my first computer (many moons ago!)

your keyboard is setup as the wrong language you can change this in the control panel under (windows xp) Regional and Language Options > Languages tab then details. It is more than likely set to US as keybord layout.

(Start menu / Settings / Control Panel), open "Accessibility Options". There, uncheck "Filter keys". To prevent that from happening again, hit the adjacent "Settings" button and turn off the "Use shortcut" feature.
