A lot of myth surrounds the cheetah. They are not man hunters; but they will attach if provoked. There was a time that a cheetah was accused of stealing a baby. However, it is documented that hyenas follow the cheetahs around, stealing easy meals. They were found to have killed and eaten the baby.
There is an African tribe that once used trained cheetahs to hunt small game. However, this is not Egyptians. The Egyptians used domesticated cats to kill mice and snakes and to awaken them, like an alarm clock. Most cat owners know the cat will awaken them at the same time every day.

I'm pretty sure that if a Cheetah wanted to kill a human I bet it would have no problem doing so considering how fast it is, and how slow we are (unless we are in a moving vehicle). They are like any other wild animal they will kill a human if they feel threatend by that human. You might possiblyl be able to train a cheetah if you raised it from birth, but even then they have a certain amount of natural instinct that cannot be taken out of them over just a period of a few months or just a few years. If you want them to be tame like a cat it will take MANY years.

Dr. marker told me that there has never been a record in recent history of a cheetah ever killing a human.
they are built for flight versus fight. theyre very shy animals and prefer to back off rather than confront. they just spit and run away (from personal experience)
as for the domestication part of it. I dont know domestication for what....... but the indian emperor akbar had 9000 cheetahs, and other moghul kings used them to hunt. I think they were called the hunting leopard....
Ive seen cheetahs that have grown up with humans from a very tender age and they behave like they are house dogs. I know a cheetah who understands commands and loves to ride the car, but at the same time you cant look him in the eye, so theres a degree to which a cheetah can be domesticated. I think....

1. Cheetahs can and have killed humans. It is not common, but it does happen. They have to be taught to fear humans.
2. The royals had a few advantages we do not enjoy- huge spaces for the cats to run in, slaves who could attend to the cats 24/7, lots of money, and no laws against doing this.
3. Exactly what would you train it for? They run fast (for short bursts) and kill medium-sized game. Successful training builds on natural skills and abilities of the species. Which of these skills do you need them to do upon command?
4. If you mean 'domesticating' it... after several generations of controlled breeding you could get a domesticated large animal that needs a huge space to run in, eats a lot of meat, and maybe can use a big litter box.
Good luck!

Of course, to a certain extent. A Cheetah is still a wild animal, and with an animal of that type, instinct usually overrules all other learned behaviors...kill or be killed, survival of the fittest!

well there was a fabulous documentary on this at animal planet or discovery channel - a girl of about 20 with her family raised cheetahs at a ranch -unbelievable, they were like family members, she kept saying they are nasty misbehaving and disrespectful like if she had a brother... she was explaining (and breaking) all rules of safe behavior towards them - she would have herself dragged uphill by holding his tail! she would race-run next to him (asking for getting raced down and hunted for real... ) she would cuddle and play, roll around with him...i bet it takes a lot of deep knowledge of the behavior and instincts, to see the world through the eyes of the animal. any animal one decides to keep. so that you know what is stressfull to it and what will make it happy. Example - my gecko couldnt be put in a shallow tank, he loves to have space below him. laying on the floor would be as stressfull for him as if you or me had to hang from the ceiling all day long, which is exactly what he loves and needs... i saw one more film on animal planet about how the zookeepers befriended their cheetahs -when time came to send some to different places, they all cried..after raising them from cubs.
sure a cheetah can maul a human - normally it would not attack, but we are speaking of having it close to you in captivity. And you break the rules -for instance you somehow disturb it when eating -and YOU ARE SORRY

I agree. I think though that animals that are from the wild can and will if they feel at all alarmed to defend themselves. I say this because of elephants and them turning on their masters. You really need to know what your doing to train. They probably wouldn't on a normal basis kill a human, but they might turn accidently.
