such as where colleagues have different set of values, or you feel like you are the only one who is motivated to do anything? or where you experience bullying/discrimination on grounds of age, gender, etc? what is it like and what do you do about it?

Yes, and unfortunately, it didn't turn out that well. I tried putting all my thoughts towards just getting things done while I was at work and finding more like-minded people to be around outside of work.

However, because the others grouped together over a mentality opposite of mine, they eventually found a way to make me leave. I would say that if these people are not supportive of who you are and are in fact, bullying you, you should continue to work there only as long as it takes to find someplace else whether another department or another company. Good luck.

last year, the school i work in underwent dramatic changes and it was choatic.. many groups of ppl formed who sometimes were against each other... i had some ppl i trust in different groups but i tried not to belong to any..but i was carried away and got influenced by their negative comments and how much the place sucks and that they want to quit their jobs and stuff like that...
i was very demotivated, i was losing focus and felt like quitting cuz it was a very negative environment...
when i was feeling overwhilmed, i decided not to listen to anyone, focus on my job, and follow my heart..
i didnt take break with others to get away from all the negative stuff, and i worked really hard to to keep my mind off such stuff..

so yes a negative environment is really damaging, but it is possible to function within it if u learn to filter the negative stuff and not allowing them to get into u

Well, it is too difficult to explain. But I was working in Saudi Aramco where you can find all kind of discriminations; by gender, color, faith, name, country and language. What I did?!! In the begging I was motivated to work later I just set down and do no thing since my boss is the worst discriminator in the world what ever I do it is not going to yield any thing. It is really hard to explain.

I used to run from these situations. But it will get to a point where
the financial liability from runnign will get too graet.
The Laws are on the books regarding immature people who want to harass you, and make your job life miserable. We need
to learn to stand up to these types of people.
Emails are good legal documents. Dated, and proof of problems.
Start out sending them to yourself, stating the nature of the problem, and make updates about how you are trying to cope.
if the person(s) becomes intolerable. make a formal complaint
to the company via email, and the Government. Let the
employer see on the email that you contacted the Government.
They won't like it, but it will protect you from retaliation and make
them have to handle it responsibly.
If you stand up for yourself, you're in for a struggle anyway.
GOOD LUCK.
