Sometimes, to attach a scanned picture to my email it takes a lot of time.
Sometimes I wait for 1/2 hour and it still does not complete.
I use a regular phone line, but still a singles pic should not take that long.
Is there a way to attach a scanned pic (JPG) to email faster?
Maybe I can compress the file before attaching it but I dont know how.
Or maybe there is a better format than JPG.
I see that some people send me emails using multiple pictures and I know that I is not possible for me because the attachment never completes.
What should I do?

by default, scanned images have a large resolution set, and this lead to a large image files. However, the only thing I need to tell you is, even a very large (1024*768 px) image in an uncompressed format would not exceed 10 minute. And the same, large compressed image would take less than 2 minute in compressed format.

A minute of 56kbps Dial Up Connection can transfer at least 0.3 MB of data (Theoritical speed, is about 0.4MB/minute), and that is quite a lot of picture. For comparisons, a 1024*768 (This is a very huge image) in BMP format (which is an Uncompressed formate) is sized 2.25MB, it would need to take 7-8 minutes to fully upload it.

However, no fools send image in BMP format, and when I compress my image in
.png (compression level 5): 398KB (about 1 minute)
.jpeg/.jpg (compression level 75%): 117KB (much less than a minute)
.gif: 232KB (about half a minute)

see? Even in BMP format, the image takes less than 10 minutes, and in compressed form, the very large image takes less than a minute.

The reasons why you can't upload image and waited for more than half an hour must be not because of the slow connection speed.

(I would suggest a change to Broadband though, as essentially, Broadband is cheaper than dial ups, especially if the usage rate is higher.)

Make the image size smaller (trying to send an 8 1/2 x 11 inch picture will take forever). Also, compress the jpg (any graphics program can do it -- it's not difficult). A small jpg shouldn't take long to send even on a phone line.
