pakistan has no choice. if they say no to the whitehouse, then they can be labelled a rogue regime should pakistan fall out of favor with the usa. however, if they say yes, they earn more enemies at home.

siding with the usa is the lesser of two evils. either you get bombed by home grown anti-pakistan extremists, or you get bombed by cruise missiles from the usa.

You should separate these into two separate questions. I will answer the first only here.
Pakistan has two very different sides: the pragmatic, Realpolitik side of the government, and the "Arab Street" side. These two sides have extremely disparate political agendas. The United States claims to want democracy everywhere, but the current dictatorship of Pakistan is the best the U.S. can hope for right now. A democratically elected government of such a militant society as Pakistan's would look politically rather like the Hamas government of the Palestinian Authority. The U.S. is better off not going into Pakistan, because the U.S. is hated there. It might turn out very much like the debacle in Somalia in the mid-1990s.

No, like many, they place their interests first, and comply with the USA a little as possible to keep USA pacified, without irritating the muslim forces in Pakistan and those over the porous border in Afghanistan.

Syria is primarily Sunni, and wants to be the player in the area. Hezbullah is moving their troups back into the southern regions with the displaced residents. So yes, arms and personnel would be interfered with by the UN forces. Count the numbers though, of 15000 UN peacekeepers, only 3500 come from countries other than USA. Bangladesh provides 2000, and the rest of the UN provides a few. Bangladesh really wants to be friends with someone other than the Pakistani muslims who tried to ethnically cleanse them.

Lebanon is 40 percent Maronite Christians, who are OPPOSED to Hezbullah, and 35 percent Shia, who don't want to be suppressed by Hezbullah. The transparent humanitarian aid is seen by them as a way to reestablish their foothold in Southern Lebanon. 20 percent are Sunni, and 4 percent are other or unaffiliated.

Lebanon doesn't really support the Sunni jihad, and distrust the Iranian Shia, but Hezbullah is one of the few minority political parties that are heavily armed; and the arms come from outside agitators.

They are allies with the condition that they help us as much as they can, and we help them with military hardware and money. They can catch terrorists with their own people. The Syrians don't like it becasue then a non friendly force will be there, and it will be harder to support Hezhollah when the UN is there.

They still harbour terrorism, and George W said he would crush any country that harboured terrorism.
I think the supply of arms to Hezbolah is the answer.

i think that they are 2 faced, all the time taking money and aid from britain and america, but in reality they are for the binladen and his murderous ilk..syria are no better ,they are only interested in getting rid of israel but haven't got the balls to front up to them themselves ,so they support a group of braindead scum to try to do their dirty work.

It's amazing that we claim all Muslims are terrorists but wish to be allies with a Muslim country.
