Well, basically he's wondering why americans voted for Bush again and why they think the model of their society is the one apparent on TV series, whereas poverty, misery, violence and violation of human rights is abundent.
This is not what an Italian thinks about American people. This is common knowledge about the US government by all the rest of the world.
