These dogs become their hot water bottles on cold nights, their protectors - homeless are often attacked! Or have what ever little they have stolen off them whilst asleep. Also they are their trusted friends, dog lovers would understand this. And trust me they also get more sympathy towards the dog then to them - this can work in their favour sometimes though.

RSPCA do free health checks to dogs owned by homeless folks!
I normally will give them something that the dog enjoys, like a chew or dog biscuits, rather then money. And don't be too judgemental, SOME of these homeless have real tales to tell why they are there!

Dogs are man's best friends! Dogs can pretty much take care of themselves! Dogs are scavengers, they will find food, no problem and water! So for a homeless person that's no problem. They most likely met on the street and the dog decided to stay!

Poverty in the United States is not as simple as it may at first seem. The poor are often distressed and depressed. This emotional condition causes them to seek some sort of relief. They may often be desirous of escape from feelings of sadness and hopelessness. So, the poor often watch a lot of television. Some poorer people have pets; some take drugs (legal and illegal); some abuse their children; some sleep a lot; some have a lot of children. You see, just because someone is poor doesn't mean the person exists somehow outside the influence of unpleasant emotion and spiritual lack.

Because the majority are not really homeless or particularly poor. They make a lot from begging..... and no doubt know the benefits system better than you and I

It is a Humanity thing. It's as though their pets are their family.
If my family was a pet I would beg for enough food so I could
feed my family also.(my pet).
Myself & my pet are both alive & both need food to sustain life.
Thank You very much. For your support & concern.
BTW, Why do you FEED Gwen? It's the same principle.

Homeless people buy, steal, or generally get hold of dogs to play on peoples emotions and make them give for the dogs sake, not the homeless person's. That's why we give more to animal charities than people ones.

well for once you fed you cat gourmet cat food which cost more than just a can of tuna for human consumption.
you probably get it vaccinated, spayed, bathed for fleas and send it to a pet salon to get it all nice and "purty:

homeless people fed their dogs scraps of what they can eat, or they don't feed the dogs at all. the dogs find their own food. the dogss are not neutred, not taken to vets nor get their coat brushed in a salon.

Some people aren't really homeless and use the dogs for the sympathy vote. If they are really homeless then they aren't feeding the dogs properly because, as you say, pets use up a lot of money if you are caring for them properly.
