Dress up, prepare a CV with subject grades, etc, don't go overboard on making it look too flashy and ask for the store manager and hand it over.

Fast food *is* always hiring (simply because it's not a particularly nice thing to do), garden centres, and places like B&Q are always on the lookout. Small local restaurants may want floor staff, or even just washing up (not that bad actually if you wear yer marigolds).

Utterly ensure you're getting minimum wage.

And I completely agree with the previous poster's psychometric testing answer. There's always a "lie" question (I studied psychology and had to write them) such as "do you ever get angry?". Always answer yes to that one, it's the classic they always use.

If you just want a simple retail job, it probably doesn't matter much how you go about it. There is such high turnover in those positions that simply being willing to take the job is probably enough. But why do you want such a lackadaisical approach to the job world?

What do you actually want to do with your life? What courses did you like best in school? It seems your time might be better spent researching about real jobs, not just wandering down the street looking for "help wanted" signs in windows.

If you really want to work in retail, then you probably want to eventually be either an owner or a manager. What sort of shop? What do you want to sell to what sort of customers? Do you see high end specialized products to be the way, where your customers are knowledgeable and you had better be, too; or do you like the high-pressure, low-priced bargain push, where the outlet store or the liquidator is your goal?

Or do you really want to prepare yourself to go to college and study marketing and business administration?

Cleaning, kitchenwork, packing, running errands, gardening, babysitting, newspaper delivery, restaurant jobs, volunteering are some of the jobs available. These jobs are posted in local newspapers and billboards.

Also,a very good option is to work from home on your computer - write articles, sell on eBay, make a website, take surveys...nd make money on ur own!

Sounds like you're going about things the right way. Dress a bit smart and have a look around the shops in your local town centre.
