After 2 rings the call will automatically be diverted to your voice mail.
But again it varies from one service provider to another. But mostly it takes 2 rings before a call is diverted.

Well with so many options out there its tough to answer this.

If the phone mail is diverted to voice mail it will directly go to voice mail.
If it shut down
it can go directly to voice mail
or it can say "the person u are trying to reach is out of coverage are or has hi mobile off" , but that depends on network.

So I dont know if there is a sureshot way to tell. But if it doesnt go directly to voice mail means
-- either shut down (in this case message may appear without ring tone)
-- person is ignoring you or not taking the call
-- phone is in car ;)
-- phone is diverted to some other number (that would be me since my tmobile connection doesnt work at all at my home or office I have diverted it to my home number)

The phone will ring first then go straight to voice mail. Thus informing the caller that you have ignored their call. Then the caller will call back right away and the phone will put you directly into voice mail.

As a new cell phone user and not into all the bells and whistles, all i want to do is make the call. But, knowing these aspects of using cps will make you the envy of the tech uniniated and thereby boost your cool quotient.
Also, if you don't get a call back, just call back. Ooops. then you'd use more minutes and push up your bill. Maybe I do need to know for economy. Help me ?
Around and around....
