I'm just starting so....not really sure what it is

Area is the amount of space covered by a figur etc.
It is the length of the figure multiplied by its breadth.
Eg. ________
******|**********|
2cm |_______| *The lines aresupposed to be connected
******* 4cm
Length=4cm
Breadth=2cm
length times breath=4 times 2 =8
the area of the figure is 8cm2.

You must really be just starting!
the length times the width is the area, expressed in square units
It all depends, an easy one will be say the area of a square or rectangle, = lenght x width and you express the answer in square units, so for example say the length is 2 cm, and the width is 3 cm, then the answer is 2 x 3 = 6 cm squared.

for a square you can get area by 2(L+B)
for reactangular length multiply breath
