I wash my black socks in colour powder and put them on the radiator to dry. No matter what brand of socks I buy (even Pierre Cardin), they tend to fade after a few washes.
What can I do to prevent this?

you may be using Hot water which will bleed the dye. Rinse them out first with Cold water, then wash in Cold water. hang to dry, do not lay on hot object, the heat is the villian here.

You probably have "hard water," which is water with high levels of
of calcium and other minerals. These minerals will play havoc on colors. You can use Calgon detergent (or something like that) which leaches the minerals out of the water. But that's undoubtedly what killing your socks. Also, be sure to wash them in cold water -- never hot -- not even warm. Cold only.

My addida ones do the same , but Target ones stay black forever. Could be ones with a bit of synthetic in them holdl the colour better? also always wash all ur clothes in cold water, theres no need these days to be using hot water, detergent should be sufficient without it.

Because they are dyed and heat will cause them to fade. Washing them in cold water and letting them air dry is your best bet.

try to soak them initially in salt water for half or one day [depends]
maybe the detergent..maybe hot water or adding bleach may cause 'em to fade..i have many pairs of black socks and they never fade till todate...maybe the quality takes in too...i guess..

are you using cotton socks, then they alwasy will, unless you you wass them along with a color fixing agent, that will prolong the blackness. in case you want more precise help, get back to me at tikibumba@yahoo.com

Maybe it is the bleach you used, do not wash anything black with bleach! It absolutely is murder on black clothes.

are you washing in cold water? hot water will fade them

not everythg branded is good...
somemore socks onli... for me socks i go for quantity...
coz u wear on ur foot... ppl won't go n stare at them...
