Go to f-secure's website and they will do you a free online virus scan - that should get rid of it. If Norton tells you the name of it and can't delete it. It's probably because it's "in use". You may have to search for it and delete it manually. If "aware" is part of the file name search for that. When you find it and maybe a data file that goes with it. Move it or them to your desktop. Move them - not copy them. Then right click your task bar or press ctrl-alt-del to get task manager. Click processes and look for the virus file name and highlight it and end process. That stops it running and now it will delete. If it has a data a file - that will probably delete too. But if the data file won't delete after you've deleted the .exe file - reboot and then it should delete OK. The link to the f-secure site follows. They do a free trial and it's a good anti-virus/firewall program to buy. If you can't afford it. Don't download the free trial - save it until you really need it desperately! For the benefit of the person - who doesn't like Americans much - this program is from Finland.

there is a few problems you have to fix before we can get rid of this spyware(not virus)
firstly ,i would remove norton anti-virus,as from experience this program is dire at identifying any kind of infection, users just install it so they can say"ive got norton"but on a scale of 1 to 10 i would give it 2
after uninstalling norton then go to http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html,and download the free version of avast 4.7,this program has a much better virus database than norton and its free,i installed it on a customers p.c which had norton on it before i removed it,avast found 11 viruses that norton could,nt,so theres the proof
also download these anti-spyware programs and install them
1) spy-bot(http://www.safer-networking.org/)
2) adaware(http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/)
3) ewido(http://www.ewido.net/en/)
these are the best anti-spyware freeware you will find on the net,and i have used these alongside avast 4.7 and had no problems with viruses and spyware
spybot is the best program to try first to get rid of the "aware" infection, but it also sounds like you may have a mild form of browser hijack,so after you have run all 3 spyware programs, check add/remove programs for any unusual programs with the name "aware" in it or any names like "dot net" or "search.net" a rogue program may have installed itself on your hard drive and this is what is giving your internet explorer problems,
once you have checked for rogue programs and completed your spyware and virus checks,go to internet options and reset your homepage to your preffered choice and apply
hopefully this should sort out this problem and the securty software installed will stop any future attacks
good luck

1) Have you updated your norton antivirus program using liveupdate? Otherwise it is useless without current update of virus definitions.
2) If you are using Windows XP, you can download 'windows defender', which is both antispyware and a firewall. also it can help you find out what programs are currently running, and selectively block, disable them.
3) You can download Internet explorer 7, which has better protection.

hi, spyware/adware is a disgusting and infamous virus. perhaps you can try Norton to remove the virus. but you need to pay for the software.
i also recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can disable all virus to run, because the virus can only run on IE.
besides, firefox can block any any poppus and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE. as you know, most of the virus is spread throught internet and webpage.
firefox is much smaller than IE, so i run faster than IE.
download firefox for free:

are you on dial-up you have a problem, there must be a virus on the computer that intercepts your dial up connection and charges you $1.50 or something a minute.
I had to strip the computer get MS-DOS wiped as it kept happening. I had to upgrade the computer ond go on to broadband.
I used Zonealarms, that really helped me, then I purchased it after the 30 day trial.

I have a program called counterspy.... got it at download.com It is by far the best program I have ever gotten. After the 15 day trial, I paid a whopping $20 for it....since then, I haven't had any problems with my computer whatsoever...
"aware" is a program i have gotten before. You belong to myspace.com? got the friend request from the busty blonde? clicked on the profile pic to see who the heck she is....then....you get redirected....to porn. yea... Ive had that happen.
my point. counterspy. get it. its good stuff.

Ad-Aware is a great program
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/
CCleaner is also a very good program
http://www.ccleaner.com/
And, another full time protection program is Webroot.
http://www.webroot.com/?rc=5082&ac=14110965
All of these programs are free download (not sure about Webroot) - And they are all very useful. If you can only download one - I would go with CCleaner.
Good Luck.
I only allow Webroot to run continuously from start up and I use both CCleaner and AdAware at least once or twice weekly.
