To me, the best name for a company tells an individual something about your company or product or service. For instance, Sam's Oil Change, tells you that it is a service that has to do with oil changes for cars. When you have a common name, like oil change, you need to add something in front. You can name it with a first name or Two Brothers Oil Change or something else. Sometimes, a word like Quick or Jiffy says that you provide fast service. Sometimes, the brand of oil will help sell your service.
Name can't do it alone. You need help with colors that will sell your service (brown for oil change won't help). You need a good business location, like the corner of two busy intersections.
What doesn't work for me or any consumer is some name that has no relationship to what it is. It's like names of drugs- they never make any sense to me.
There's many instances where a name was made up- like Haagen Das- it sounds like it's an authentic language but it's not.
Look at Ben and Jerry's- every one now knows they sell ice cream.
To me a good name tells you almost everything you need to know.
