I'm against the death penalty. It has been proven a ineffective crime deterrent, Example I live in a city of 115,000 and so far just this year we have had 11 murders and I lost count of how many shootings (probably about 40) So its not a very effective deterrent. Second; all the death penalty does it create another grieving family, the suspects family committed no crimes, but in the end there the ones being punished for their family members crime. And third Its a barbaric and a out dated means of punishment, the United states is one of the only civilized country's that still enforces the death penalty. Its time that we made prison a place these people don't want to be, Get rid of the T.V.'s, the gyms, Etc. and bring back the chain gangs, now that is a deterrent, actually making them repay there debt to society.

I have to say I'm for it. The person that did the killing, made that choice and should be held accountable. If the killer has at least a 72 I.Q. they know about cause and effect and the law.
The penalty should be carried out within a month. Our taxes are paying for these louses to sit around all day, get three good meals and entertainment of some sort.
Once convicted, all of their rights should be taken away. Those that loved the victim may feel the same way.

I'm against it.
The message of the death penalty is that life is valuable. We can put a price on it and we have judged that a human life has to be taken in order to balance out the murder of another human being.
We call that justice? I call that revenge and feel that human life isn't Soooo precious if other people can legally decide to take it away ( yes, even if they did commit horrendous crime).
It's more of a feel-good method than true Justice. True Justice for me would be the victim coming back to life and that's impossible so taking another life means just one more dead person.

That's a tough one because I kind of lean both ways, I think that people who commit violent acts against other people should be sentenced to death BUT they should first have to go through the Tortures of prison for a long time first, you see that's why I'm split on this, I don't look at death as a "punishment" So if they could be absolutely miserable for the remainder of their natural life, that would suit me just fine!

I am all for the death penalty as long as we go ahead and call it sanctioned murder, same as abortion. My fellow liberals want to dance around the issue with gray areas, but really, it's government sanctioned murder. And I'm all for that as long as we're all truthful with what we're doing.
Further... let's get rid of the "hate crime" bull. Most all murders are motivated by hate of some sort, so making some murders more special for worse fates is just silly.
And one more... murders should be put to death in the same manner in which they killed the people they murdered. I do not think it's a deterrent, necessarily... it's just and fair retribution. You kill, you will be killed in that same manner.
Ooops... one more... no more 20 year appeals processes either. If you've in any way, shape or form confessed, it's a conviction and BAM, put to death. Let's eliminate prison overcrowding by actually putting those sentence to death... TO DEATH!

Against it!!
1. Death penalty does'nt stop criminals from doing heinous
crimes.
2. We are not suppose to judge who will die or not.
3. Only GOD can take the life that he had given.
4. What about those who were wrongfully convicted? It's not just
fair, especially that there are so many hoodlums in robes.

I'm for it. However, the way it's performed should be changed. We have the ability to end their lives painlessly with things such as cyanide. Yet we still use barbaric methods like electrocution, gas, and injection?
And why keep people in jail with life+ sentences with no chance of parole? If we got rid of all those people can you imagine the money that would be saved?

For it!!!
For all of the Christians who say God wouldn't want it, how about "an eye for an eye", plus why should I have to pay tax money for a murderer to sit in jail for 50 yrs. when he can be put to the death penalty! Our prisons are too full, murderer's don't rehab., so take care of the problem and fry them!

umm... i'm actually against death penalty. i just don't believe that justice can be found by killing another person's life. after all, God is the only one who has the right to take away lives. right?

I think I am against it. There have been a few convicted killers recently who turned out to be innocent. If there was a way to know for sure that they were guilty then I would be for it.
