well... um... how many are near earth?? that is difficult to answer... it really depends on the time of year and the planet allignment.... but if you want to do it by looking at a map of our planets there are only 2 that are close to earth the one closer to the sun mars and the one past us venus ( i think that is right ) if your tryin to make ppl understand that there was a new planet (if you still consider pluto a planet )found beyond pluto that has some crazy name like 13256b129-s then i think that you should know that that is pretty old news.... anyway... if you going to ask a question like that i suggest that you be a little more specific....

There were 9 planets out which astronomist did not agree with pluto to be a planet.
Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto.
So at moment there is total count of 12 planets(Big Confusion)
New planets discovered recerntly their names are Ceres ,Charon & Xena.
The nearest planet to Earth is Venus(& closest to venus is mercury) and then Mars.

ok..
its 2 planets 'near' earth and they are...venus and mars.
it WAS 9 planets in the solar system till 48 hrs ago (including earth and Pluto)
now its only 8 cos the international confederation of astronomers chose to strip 'pluto' of its planetary status.
that explanation in detail makes mine the best answer. so where are my 10 points?

recently scientists hav cut it off to 8. now there are only 8 planets. Pluto is out of the planet member. and it will be counted as small planet.

Depends on what you consider near the Earth. I would say 7.

One less than I was taught way back in grade school, since "they" decided Pluto is no longer a planet.
