Ancient China invaded many countries. Some countries became China's vassal willingly.

Modern China which is known as PRC or People's Republic of China started conquering world economy.

China has invaded Vietnam many times over the thousand years of Vietnam history, and the Vietnamese people had been very successful in kicking China and other countries out of their country every time.

Many Chinese, especially the government, don't like to hear that tiny Vietnam had beaten big China back across their boarders many times. The Chinese government is so against acknowledging these historical facts, that they went to war with Vietnam in the 80's to prove a point.

It was a cake walk for the Chinese because the Vietnam Army was busy occupying Cambodia at the time. The Chinese Army advanced into Vietnam a few dozen miles, enough to satisfy their point, and returned back across the boarded.
